After what happened with Seer, there's no time to waste for the Batgirls as they go Batgirling back into detective mode! And this new murder hits even closer to home— literally! As Steph, Cass, and Babs are racing to put the clues together about who might be the Hill Ripper, they get an unexpected visit. Who doesn't love a killer fight scene? Yet with all this murder going on, Steph still manages to get her flirt on!

Summary of Stephness: As Grace O'Halloran promotes the Batgirls on her TV program, the Clocktower has been restored after the Magistrate's attack (in Fear State), Babs has coffee with her friend Alysia, Cass reads furiously at their neighbor Mr. Dhaliwal's bookstore, and Steph sunbathes on the roof in an inflatable pool, sipping a cold one through a curly straw, and surveilling their other neighbor, Mr. Greene, whom she suspects is the Hill Ripper.

That night, Steph and Cass hit the rooftops to take out KGBeast, Oracle having laid a trap for him. Steph runs distraction while Oracle takes control of his HUD and Cass hits him a lot. Steph draws his fire to a water tower, flooding him, then they both hit him with electrobatarangs. As Cass ties up KGBeast, Steph is knocked off balance by something flying really fast and hard, falling into a dumpster, where she finds Mr. Greene's mail, and strange wooden body parts. Frustrated at the lack of clues, Steph kicks a trash can in the alley, and they discover Mr. Greene himself - murdered!

Though startled, Steph immediately goes into detective mode, collecting crime scene photos, even though Babs notices she's upset at having suspected Mr. Greene of being the killer when he was in fact the victim. The Batgirls make deductions, collect material samples, and Steph collects Mr. Greene's false eye, a bit grossed out. Their two minutes up, the girls head back to the rooftops as the cops arrive, including Commissioner Montoya.

Babs finds Steph on the roof of their loft, sitting sadly between pigeons, feeling really bad about her assumptions about their now murdered neighbor. Babs suggests ice cream, but Steph says she refuses to enjoy it. While they eat, the Batgirls open the false eyeball and find a paper covered in numbers, which Steph immediately recognizes as a cipher message.
